1997-98 Eight Grade Student of the Year

My name is Ashley DeUnTrell Jean-Batiste. In 1989 I graduated from Lebeau Head Start Center and then attended Palmetto Elementary School. I kept a 4.0 up until the fourth grade. My fourth grade year I was also tested for EAGLE, a gifted program. I was the only student to pass the test out of six. Mrs. White began as my teacher. By the time I reached sixth grade Mrs. Duplechain became my teacher. Throughout the years I have participated in the Science and Social Studies fairs, where I placed first and third my sixth grade year and second in both fairs my last year. In fourth grade I was Vice-president of the 4-H Club and secretary of Beta Club. I was voted Superior 4-H member and as an Outstanding Beta member.
At the elementary school I was introduced into the Accelerated Reader's Program. It helped me out by making me want to read more. Out of all my school years, I must say that my seventh grade year was the best. It was my last year there, the younger kids looked up to me, and I would soon be at the high school. I also upheld my position in the 4-H Club. This year I was nominated as Reporter for Beta.
I have accomplished a lot, and most of it in the past three years. I am now thirteen years old and a resident of Palmetto, Louisiana. I attend North Central High, where I am an eighth grader. I am an active member of the marching and concert band under the direction of Mr. Johnson. I am also the vice-president of my home room class. I have always been an honor student, and as of now an Eagle student of four years. I belong to a very outgoing, active, yet educational community program by the name of Project Hope. I'm in Palmetto's Most Gifted Community Choir directed by Ms. Malveaux. My average so far in the eighth grade is a 3.9. After graduating from North Central, I plan to attend the University of North Carolina and Xavier University of New Orleans and further myself in the medical field. I will emerge a pediatrician.
In my spare time I love talking on the phone, watching television, going to the movies, skating, listening to the radio, and hanging out on the park with my friends. Also, I love writing poems. I am a very outgoing person and fun to be with. I am very friendly and love to be with a crowd. I have a great sense of humor and get along with others easily. I have a lot to be thankful for and do thank God for each of these blessings that he has given me.
