An Interview with A Wise Man

by Jessica Ryder

One day I was sitting by the river admiring the beauty, enjoying the peace, and thinking. I was completely lost in my thoughts when someone touched me on my shoulder. I looked up, a little startled, and saw a familiar man about 35 years old. His face was very familiar. He said, "Do you mind if I sit here and rest?"
I said, "Sure."
He asked me, "What are you doing so far from home by yourself? Are you lost?"
"No," I said, "I just like to get away from things sometimes, and think. Sometimes I get so stressed out I need to get away by myself and sort things out."
He looked over at me and said, "You look a little young to be so stressed out. Have you talked to your parents about your problems?"
I looked over at him and said, "No, that is the reason I am out here. My parents and I really don't communicate very well. We always fight over the dumbest things. It just gets me so confused."
He looked at me and said, "I know you love your parents, and they love you. Maybe if you just sit down with your mother of father and tell them how you feel, I am sure they will understand."
I looked at him and said, "You know, I never thought about doing that before. Instead of trying to work things out we always start fussing and fighting."
When I looked over to thank him he was gone. On the way home is when I realized that I was talking to the wisest man that ever walked this earth, Jesus Christ.
