Get Steppin'

by Reynard Eaglin, Jr.

You take your licks and much more.
You've been knocked down on the floor.
The strikes you take are too much to bear.
Were your friends there?

Your pride has been disgraced.
Lies have been told, but not to your face.
Times have been rough.
The going has never been so tough.
It makes you wanna scream enough is enough!

You give all you've got;
You'll even scrape the bottom of the pot.
They take credit for your best shot
To move into your spot . . . forgot?

You are there to listen when everyone else is gone
You always do right by them, but they never fail to do you wrong.

You give freely;
They take in vain.
You change completely;
They stay the same.

You're stuck like Chuck and your back is against the wall.
You stumble, you trip, you fall, and they act like they don't know you at all.

So what is there to do with people like this?
Act like you know and stop being "dissed."

You got to get up, stand up, for your right.
Take your pride to another height.
Be the one you want to be; express yourself, live life worry free.
To get even you don't need a weapon, tell 'em like Martin
Get 'ta steppin.
