Congratulations to our team and coaches!!!
"It is the best game I have ever coached in," North Central head coach Herb Lamb said after the Hurricanes first win of the season. "I am impressed with our team tonight the way the moved the ball and played good enough defense to win this game."

North Central scored first when Lionel Richard connected with Kennard

Tanner on a 45-yard touchdown pass with 8:50 remaining in the opening quarter. Richard and Tanner hooked up for the two-point conversion and North Central led 8-0.

The Crusaders defense got WCA on the scoreboard in the second quarter Crusader defensive end Jason Comeaux sacked Lionel Richard in the Hurricane end zone for a safety with 7:27 remaining to close the gap to 8-2.

The Crusaders recorded another safety when the punt was blocked and WCA's Roland Arimah tackled Richard in the end zone to make it 8-4 with 1:52 remaining in the half.

Crusader freshman Ryan McCombie scored on a two-yard run with 9:53 remaining in the third quarter. John Ross Prudhomme's extra point was good and WCA grabbed a11-8 lead.

North Central struck back as Richard connected with Jai Rideau for a 42-yard touchdown pass completion with 1:53 left in the period. Richard again found Kannard Tanner for the two-point conversion and the Hurricanes took a 16-11 lead into the fourth quarter.

WCA regained the lead with 6:25 left in the contest as Matt Prudhomme plunged into the end zone from three yards out. The extra point failed, but the Crusaders held a slim 17-16 advantage.

Thirteen seconds later, Richard again connected with Rideau for a 65-yard touchdown pass. Tanner ran in the two point conversion to push North Central ahead, 24-17.

The Crusaders drove the ball 81 yards and McCombie scored on a five-yard touchdown run with 1:13 remaining in the game as WCA was an extra point away from a tie.

Lionel Richard blocked the extra point attempt and North Central held on for the victory 24-23.

"Our coaching staff prepared us very well," Lamb said. "We knew exactly when to throw the slant and the fade route and we executed to perfection tonight.

Jai Richard has excellent hands and tonight he ran perfect routes to get behind the defensive backs to get into the end zone."

"Their kids were ready to play tonight and our kids were not ready to play. Westminster head coach Tommy Badon said. "We didn't come out and play in the first half.

"Our kicking game killed us tonight. We have one of the best kickers in the district and he missed an extra point and got one blocked.

"Then John Ross (Prudhomme) returns a kickoff for a touchdown and it gets called back because one of our seniors gets called for a clip. We didn't show up to play and their coaches had them ready to play.."

The Hurricanes entertain Jeanerette at home Friday, while Westminster travels to play Point Coupe Central in New Roads.
