LEBEAU - This time it was no contest.
The North Central Lady Canes built an insurmountable early lead and held on down the stretch to capture the championship of their own tournament with a 66-45 victory over cross-parish rival Northwest Saturday.
"We played well," said North Central coach Vanessa Taylor. "Northwest played well. Coach Malone did a good job with them.
"I thought my girls were flat, so we kind of put a little spunk in them to come out and show that they?226-130?re one of the best teams in the parish," Taylor stated.
North Central (3-0) took it to Northwest from the opening tip, displaying poise and confidence as they built a 12-0 lead in the first four minutes.
Tasha Tanner led the Lady Canes with 16 points, and got help from Donisha Durisseau, who added 13. Appolonia Chambers also finished in double figures with 10 points. Triston Sonn paced Northwest, tallying 25 points.
The Lady Raiders (3-1) were never able to find the range on their shots, and had a horrendous night at the free throw line, missing 19 of their 24 shots.
