NCHS Recycles

On February 14, Tasheta Thomas and Reynard Eaglin were busy. Everybody else was excited about Valentine's Day, and messengers were bringing flowers and balloons. But Reynard and Tasheta were excited about something else. This was going to be another historical day for North Central High School. About a month ago the subject had come up in Mr. Martel's English III class, and at that time a recycling committee was formed of three juniors, Tasheta Thomas, Reynard Eaglin, and Lashondra Pierre. The three young recyclers met with Mr. Quincy Richard of St. Landry Parish Recycling and then provided, with the help of Mr. Martel, fliers and boxes to all teachers to collect recyclable paper. Later on cans were also collected by some teachers from their students. And now the big day was here, and although Lashondra was out with the flu, Tasheta and Reynard were busy getting everything ready for the pickup. The men arrived shortly before noon and history was made at North Central, our first recycling pick up. Although we did not have alot, it was a beginning. Currently, students are in the process of making a video to discourage waste and encourage recycling. The tape will be shown to the student body by the end of this month.
