Academic Assembly

Friday, Oct. 13, was a lucky day for some students at North Central High School. An Academic Assembly was given to honor those students who had attained a 3.0 average and above. Each student was honored with a certificate, and those students having a 4.0 were given a trophy. Principal Raymond Duplechain spoke to the assembly of students and parents giving encouragement to all to try hard and excel in all courses. He expressed his hope that many more students would be honored at future assemblies of this type. Guest speakers Dr. Charles Bryant, Mr. Clifton Lemelle, Ms. Lottie Beebe, and Rev. Dale Fontenot encouraged students to excel academically. Entertainment was provided by Joseph Doucette on saxophone, Wilson Doomes on trumpet, and Reginald Jackson on trumpet. A drawing was held for those honorees (seated up front) to win cash (up to $25) and gift certificates. The lucky winners were handed envelopes by Principal Raymond Duplechain and cheered by the student body. Mr. Duplechain hopes that this activity will focus attention on those students who do well academically, encouraging them and others to do well also.
