Angela Labrie Wins VICA Skills Competition
Angela Labrie, a senior at NCHS, won first place in Prepared Speech at the 14th annual Louisiana VICA Skills USA Championships held in Shreveport, La. on April 11, 1996. Angela competed with students from schools in St. Landry Parish as well as others statewide. Angela, who is taking health occupations, learned of the competition from her teachers Mr. Marvin Gaines and Mr. Dwane Lemon at Washington Vocational Education Center and was encouraged by them to participate since they felt that she could win it. First, Angela joined VICA and, with the help of Mr. Gaines, she prepared and practiced her speech. In April, along with fifteen others, during the Easter break, Angela traveled to Shreveport. She took the VICA Knowledge test, passed it, gave her speech, and was awarded the first place medal. On May 2 Angela gave her winning speech to St. Landry Parish School Board, and in June she will enter into national competition. Congratulations and Good Luck!!!
