NCHS students participate in Governor's Abstinence Rally.
    On Sunday, April 28, 2002, nine students (Sharhonda Biley, Angelle Bush, Danielle Beard, Maya Hills, Malaysia Doucet, Ruth Curtis, Ashley Kilcrease, Heidi Beard, and Sharhonda Bryant) and their sponsors (Linda Haynes and Melissa Noel) from North Central High School attended a three-day Governor's Program on Abstinence at the Radisson Hotel in Baton Rouge. Students had an opportunity to participate in numerous contests, workshops, and other activities.
    One participant, Danielle Beard, a freshman and honor roll student at North Central, won 1st place in the Oratory Speaking Contest. Danielle has received numerous awards and recognition for her talents in public speaking. On Tuesday, April 30, 2002 Danielle read her speech, "The Myths of Safe Sex" at the Abstinence Rally on the Capitol steps to hundreds of people. Danielle was interviewed and aired on Channel 2 and Channel 9 News.
